ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

On the occasion of ZONAMACO MÉXICO 2023, Studio 84 brings cc-tapis, Atelier de Troupe and Casa Gilardi together, integrating design pieces with the existing composition of the house. A harmonious synthesis of regional and foreign influences where cc-tapis collections Euphorbia by Bethan Laura Wood, Le Tapis Nomade by Atelier De Troupe and Les Arcs by Charlotte Perriand merge with Atelier de Troupe’s new PEDREGAL furniture collection in an installation of contrast, color and volume.

Located in the San Miguel Chapultepec neighborhood of Mexico City, Casa Gilardi was Luis Barragán’s last residential project. Commissioned by Pancho Gilardi and advertising partner Martin Luque, initially Luis Barragán, who had already retired, declined to design the house. It was only after seeing the blooming Jacaranda tree on the property that changed his mind, becoming the centre of the architectural project.

The interaction of contemporary design elements with Barragán’s use of color and composition create a vibrant visual effect immersing visitors in a full contemplative experience, staying true to Barragán’s original intentions for the home.  Guests are invited to explore both inside and outside of the residence, starting from the courtyard where they can discover the Euphorbia collection by British designer Bethan Laura Wood. A delicate triptych of rugs, born from the meditative act of observation and drawing, which engage in a conversation with both the vegetation of Casa Gilardi and the pigmented walls reflecting Barragan’s sensibility for the coexistence between nature and architecture.

PEDREGAL COLLECTION BY ATELIER DE TROUPE
Atelier de Troupe finds inspiration in the modernist architecture of Mexico City for its 2023 collection PEDREGAL.

The collection borrows its name from Luis Barragan’s “Jardines del Pedregal de San Angel”, which translates to The Gardens of the Lava Fields, planned in a deserted area outside central Mexico City covered in dense lava from the Xitle volcano, which erupted thousands of years ago.
